Name: Yuna Yuki
Age: 14
AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon! From Yuki Yuna is a Hero (Yuki Yuna wa Yusha de aru, or YuYuYu)
Key Points:
First, aim to list 5-7 bullet points of the history of your character.
- Once upon a time Shikoku, an island of Japan, was all that was left of humanity and the Taisha would like to inform you that Everything Is Fine and no middle school girls are sacrificing their bodily autonomy to keep humanity safe. Totally. All praise to the Shinju-sama.
- This is where Yuna lives and goes to school where she is in the HERO CLUB, which is a bunch of girls who do nice things for people and not at all a government scouting program for magical girls that would be silly.
- Spoilers the hero club absolutely is a government scouting program for magical girls and Yuna has THE GREATEST HERO POTENTIAL OF ALL so she and all her friends end up becoming mahou shojou to save humanity and save the Shinju-sama, the sacred tree protecting humanity
- Yuna becomes one by punching her way through an attack saving her bff Togo it’s so incredibly badass like. Yo. Also this is where I state that Yuna and Togo are basically in love for the whole of the series.
- A few fights and a beach episode later they get their traditional POWER-UP forms called Mankai! They use them to fight the Vertexes but afterwards they lose physical abilities – Yuna her sense of taste, Itsuki her voice, Fu the use of an eye, Togo the ability to hear in one ear. But ahahaha oh man they can’t be permanent… right?
- Spoilers they’re permanent. And will keep happening until they are vegetables, apparently! Yuna takes this in stride. So does Itsuki. No one else does. Fu gets very uspet but gets talked down! Togo does something a little more extreme.
- She breaks a hole in the barrier and there is no reality outside it. Nothing but infinite Vertexes. Karin does a tragic thing, then Yuna: punches sense into Togo, promises to stay with her for the rest of her life no matter what, then PUNCHES A STAR TO DEATH, PUTTING HERSELF INTO A COMA and also saving the world. And getting everyone their bodies back.
- Six months later Yuna gets up though, and recovers enough to be in a very symbolic play. Then she went through a hole and became a rock, because these kids are great at good life choices.
History:
In the near future, the island of Shikoku is the last bastion of humanity, run by the Taisha priests who care and speak for the Shinju-sama, a giant god-tree that maintains a barrier around the island to keep out the Vertexes, humanity’s enemies. Well, most people don’t know about the barrier or the Vertexes. But the barrier is not perfect, and Vertexes get through sometimes. So the Shinju-sama grants the power to fight them to “heroes,” middle-school girls with strength of personality and willpower in Hero Clubs, which are ostensibly clubs of girls who just do nice things for people.
Yuna Yuki, age 13, is very active in her middle school’s Hero Club, along with her wheelchair-bound best friend Togo and other friends Fu and Itsuki. One day their cell phones unlock the ability to BECOME MAGICAL GIRLS AND SAVE THE WORLD!!! Or. Heroes is the term for it here. Anyway, they can fight and seal away the Vertexes! And this seems cool for a while until their Mankai Gauges fill and they have to. Use their more powerful Mankai Forms. Because YuYuYu is hardcore with its usage of flower imagery, and Mankai is the blooming part of it. And what happens after flowers bloom? They wither, referred to in-series as the Sange.
Using Mankai disables the user in some way physically – Yuna loses her sense of taste, Itsuki loses her voice, etc. As it becomes apparent that this is permanent, and that they will continue to fight and lose parts of themselves until they are effectively vegetables, the Hero Club has a range of reactions. Yuna takes it in stride! Itsuki is just glad to have been here at all, you guys. Karin, the new girl, thinks this is just a fact of their service whatever. Fu briefly considers killing the government before the others talk her down.
Togo tries to break the barrier and end humanity. It makes sense, y’know, for her. Anyway, Karin Mankais like five times to stem the flow, losing like all physical ability, then Yuna punches Togo into understanding how big a mistake this is and also gives a speech that might as well be a marriage proposal I swear. Then the Vertexes form into a literal star and Yuna PUNCHES THE STAR TO DEATH. The energy reboots the Hero System into no longer having the Sange and healing all previous Heroes. Except Yuna goes into a coma for six months as a result. But she gets better, and life goes on! Until she finds this weird hole…
Personality:
Yuna Yuki is a hero. That is the center of her personality and her drive for basically everything she does. Yuna wants more than anything to help the people she loves, whatever it takes, and is kind and self-sacrificing to a fault. In everyday life she approaches everything with zeal and enthusiasm – she’s happy-go-lucky, friendly, and optimistic but as driven as anyone has ever been. She defines what it means to be a hero in episode 12 – a hero is not someone who goes out and does heroic things, but someone who is willing to take as many hits as it takes to defend those who they love. And as long as you have someone you love to fight for, she insists, you cannot truly lose. This is after, mind you, punching through a star and ending up in a six-month coma for it. A coma she had just woken up from. And just managed to get out of her wheelchair before she gave the speech. Breaking Yuna’s optimism is something that even an army of eldritch horrors beyond the veil between mankind and the infinite couldn’t manage. Even after being betrayed by her government, tricked by her god, and manipulated by the entire society around her, Yuna still believes in heroism and good and that people should be happy and well.
Yuna is absolutely the type to literally just go with friends and pick up litter from a beach for fun, like. She does that. Helping people is so incredibly important to her that she chose a club where that is all she does. So if people have problems, Yuna will absolutely do her best to help them! Pretty much no matter who they are. That said, the event of canon have left her a lot more mature than she used to be – she’s a little less overly energetic, less focused on childish things, and with significantly more calm and composure to her overall bearing. That said…
Yuna is absolutely a fighter. When she says hero, she is talking specifically about fighting. And if she has to fight, Yuna is a force to be reckoned with. She will put everything she has into every punch, and by god she is willing to punch. Getting her to that point is hard, but she absolutely can and will physically fight you. She fought a star and won, okay? She fought that star so hard it fixed the Hero System. She is also good, coincidentally, at motivating others to fight on. Hot-blooded hero speeches are, after all, a critical part of being a hero. At least to her. So much motivational yelling, okay? And motivational punching if things get really hairy.
In total, Yuna is just a very fundamentally good person with an incredible amount of passion and drive. It’s why she was chosen to be a Hero, and it’s why she was the one able to fix the Hero system in the end.
Gem Considerations: Blue moonstone on her forehead straight up. It’s Togo’s color and on the “mind” spot where R is putting Togo’s pink stone on the “heart” spot, because they’re disgustingly in love and we’re just trying to reflect that by making their gems disgustingly matchy. I guess moonstones are also about emotional strength and inner clarity, which Yuna has in spades. And a little bit of calming, which she could use sometimes. Also: first love. Look I am mostly bringing her in to kiss and spend time fused with Togo and see where her CR takes her beyond that. And hey, this place could use a hero.
Power considerations:
- Magical girl form, with gauntlets and boots and STRENGTH!!!
- Healing and ability buffs through application of HOT-BLOODED HEROIC SPEECHES
- Increased strength by proximity to flowers, especially physical contact
Gaining power would be weird for her, seeing as in YuYuYu-verse power comes with one heck of a price, but once she saw that the sange isn’t involved she’d be down. Working for a big unknowable thing so similar to the Shinju-sama will be difficult to deal with, but she’ll get used to it.

[The Waverly Bay Hero Club has a website! It’s very expertly designed, and on the front page there’s a video titled “THE FIVE HERO CLUB TENETS!”, because capslock means it’s serious business. Click on the video, and there’s a nice little recording of Yuna standing in what looks like a repurposed classroom.]
Togo, is it- EH, it’s on!? Oh no, we can’t – this would be so much easier if Itsuki was here…
[A quick cut, and Yuna looks much more composed.]
Hello, everyone! My name is Yuna Yuki, and I’m the acting leader of the Waverly Bay Hero Club! If you haven’t read the information above this video, the Hero Club does good deeds and protects people! Back home it was an extracurricular, but since there’s no school here we’re just a regular club, I guess. But we wrote that out, this video is about the five Hero Club Tenets! The most important part!
[Each one gets a dramatic gesture forward, holding up an appropriate number of fingers.]
Tenet one! Give a good greeting! When you meet someone, it’s important to make sure you make a good first impression! So always be ready to be kind to others, because you never know just when you’ll meet someone new who will be important in your life! Like when I met Togo after she moved in next door, and now we’re- what? Oh, right, gotta stay on task!
Tenet two! Try not to give up! There are some times when it’s best to, but if you can keep trying you should! Don’t quit, because if you try-! ...That’s tenet five, I can’t say that now…
T-Tenet three! Sleep well and eat well! You have to take care of yourself, it’s really important! U-Unless you’re one of those kinds of gems that doesn’t have to eat or drink, I guess. But still, make sure you’re okay!
Tenet four! If you’re troubled, talk to someone! We all have problems and make mistakes, and other people do bad things and make mistakes too! But you’re not alone, okay? There’s always people you can talk to! And if you’re watching this, even if you don’t think you have anyone, you can talk to me, okay? Even if you’re not in the Hero Club!
[There’s some coughing off-camera.]
Togo, are you okay? Your eyes are all-
[A cut and Yuna is sitting back where she was. If you pay attention, there was a box of tissues in the background that’s no longer there.]
Sorry about that! Where was I… oh yeah!
Tenet five! And this one is the most important one, so listen up! You’re likely to succeed if you try! Everybody fails sometimes, too, and that’s okay! But trying is the most important part – you have to try and give it your all! If you do that, you have the strength in you to do whatever it is you’re trying to do! I know you can, but you have to know that too. And if you fail, remember tenet two!
[A nose is blown this time, somewhere off-camera]
Anyway, uh… those are the tenets! Goodbye, hope to see you at the next club meeting! We’re always open for new members and requests! I think that’s everything, right To-
[AND THE CREDITS START all the credits are Yuna and Togo in different roles like. Why even make credits for this? Who knows.]
